UT day 6... ZION

We were in new territory being in Salt Lake.
We had Provo down pat!
It is funny how even on vacation you establish a routine, and then when it
changes it messes with your mind!
We were staying at my all time favorite hotel, The Little America!
I must admit, I am a hotel snob.
I blame my father!!

However, the one bad thing is that it did not have was a complimentary breakfast.
We were mighty hungry so we started looking up places we could eat.
How did we ever survive without yelp back in the day?!
I found a couple of promising places close by but my instinct went to
Penny Ann's Café.
My instincts we spot on!
We had to roll ourselves out of there and even in the car
5 minutes later we were still commenting on how good our meal was!

This girl was being SO. DARN. CUTE!!
Awe, I wanted to gobble her up as an appetizer.

I challenged the boys to see who could unscramble these words the fastest.
Lindi with excitement said, I already did!
Then showed me her paper:

100% my dear!
She was so proud:)

Funny story.
Seated next to us was a table with young adults.
I had Della on my lap facing out (towards them) when our food arrived.
I started cutting up pancakes and got lost in my groove when one of the
guys at the other table said, um ma'am she is spilling.
I looked down in confusion and saw some white, clumpy stuff.
At first I thought she had spit up.
Upon closer investigation it was handfuls of my biscuits and gravy!
Girlfriend was helping herself and I had no idea!!
Her face, hands and clothes were covered in my pork deliciousness.
I can only imagine them watching her grab food and stuff her face while I hadn't a clue
she was doing it.
We all got a kick out of it.

To the high chair she went!

Our next stop was the SLC Cemetery.
I had no idea how this would go.
It was ginormous and we didn't even know where to begin.
Christopher was going to meet us there so we drove around waiting for him.
Right before he showed up we found Pres. Hinckley's grave!

We were amazed by its size until we looked directly down and saw this monstrosity!

President McKay must have lived LARGE because this thing was unreal!

By that time Christopher had found us.
He had been here before but couldn't remember where everyone was.
We looked up the website with a map and list of where everyone is buried.
It was still like a wild Easter Egg hunt.

We would scour a section then hop in the car and go to the next area
to look for more.
Della was our chauffeur.
It really looked like she was driving, it made us LAUGH!

This turned out to be more fun and interesting than I thought it would be!
SO, so glad we did this.

Onward to This is the Place and Heritage Village!
Another activity I wouldn't have done if somebody hadn't told me to do it.

You walk into a gift shop first where you buy your tickets.
I am a sucker for these little plastic animals.
I think I have them all after this trip:)
They are the best for church.
It is crazy how they can entertain little ones for hours!

Casey found his souvenir!

Walking around was like being in a mini Nauvoo!

Christopher teaching Rusty the proper way to drink some booze out of this heavy,
glass bottle.

An original log cabin.
This housed a family of 10.

Trying to figure out this metal contraption game.

In the backyard they were taught how to do the laundry.

She thought it was pretty fun!

While the boys played...

...she kept on washing!

Grabbed some Brigham's Donuts!
These were mighty tasty.

We walked into the barber shop to find you could get a shave, for free!
The razor was not plastic, folks!
Too bad Casey shaved that morning.

Half way through Lindi's shave I said you should have done your legs:)

Pounding some nails at the cabinetry shop

School house

The teacher gave us a "lesson".
Mainly on how school happened back in the day.
I was loving it because I was in the middle of  When Calls the Heart, on Netflix.
I felt like I was in Miss Thatcher's class in Hope Valley!

This quaint hotel was my favorite!

We had SO much more to explore but we were completely out of time and needed
to head to temple square still!
Panning for gold, dancing in teepees, sending telegraphs, train rides
will have to wait until the next time:(

I forgot how big this monument was

The weather turned overcast when we got to temple square.
This picture doesn't do it justice, but it looked like it was glowing in the middle of the day!

We decided not to do a tour since we were short on time.
Luckily we happened to walk into the old tabernacle right when they were doing'
the acoustic demonstration.
You can see the sisters up front, and hear the pin drop like it was being magnified
with a microphone.

Lindi snapping away.
I love looking at my camera roll with 100 pictures of the same thing:)

All of us together at the Salt Lake temple, pinch me!
I hope whenever my kids watch conference, they have a whole
new perspective on the things that they hear.
The temple grounds has such a special feeling.
Even being able to visualize where all the different buildings are is helpful
when you are little and trying to comprehend what you are watching on the TV.

We walked across the street to the conference center.
I forget how humongous this building is!

I never realized it housed original paintings.
LOTS of original paintings!
This has been a favorite of mine.
So neat to see it up close.

To go from the original tabernacle to this conference center that can hold triple the amount of people
was unreal.

I cant imagine how hard it must have been to get this painting in the building.
Talk about life sized!
I loved watching the kids sit and stare at the elements in this painting.
All of the different expressions on the faces of those witnessing Christ are moving.

A selfie with our tour guide in the mirror:)

Roof top view.
I found it funny that our guide said we wont spend time on the roof because it is
too hot.
Umm, if felt glorious!!
Funny how we are so immuned to heat.

We walked over to the Church History Museum.
We have been to the real N.K. Whitney store in Kirtland, so it was fun to see
this replica.

I couldn't believe I was standing in front of the actual vest
worn by Hyrum when he was shot and killed.
They also had Josephs and Hyrums death masks on display.
It was like looking at them in person.
Not going to lie, it spooked me out a little so I didn't take a picture.

I made dinner reservations for the Garden room on top of the JS building!
You can barely see the temple in the background behind those men.
It was a fun experience.

If I had a genie in a bottle with 3 wishes, I would have used one wish
to extend the hours of that day!
I was grateful we were able to cram so much goodness in.
God is good.
The church is true.
