Memorial Weekend

This was the first Memorial Day that we have actually been in town for in a long time! I have come to realize that spending holidays at home is just as, if not, more fun! Stephanie and Travis came from NY to bless Collin. I got to meet their little guy for the first time. It was fun being around a baby again and getting to hold and snuggle him. Lane loved his cousin "Tollin" and
can't wait until he can play catch with him. If he had the chance, he would have given him a few good throws:)

On Monday my family went to 2 cemetery's to visit family members . It has always been a tradition on my mom's side to go to the Phoenix cemetery on Memorial Day with extended relatives to visit her grandparents grave and have a little devotional. I haven't been in about 6 years because we usually are not in town. Casey was working so Lane and I went with my family. This time I went it had a little more meaning to me, I don't know why. I really liked what my Uncle Brad shared with all of us. He pretty much just asked us, when we leave this earthly life, how would we like to be remembered? It made me start to think of all the people that I know that have already passed and every single one of them had good, wonderful things about them that had touched my life and other's. It didn't matter if I knew them a long time or never had the chance to meet them. If they lived a short life or long life , their stories and examples left a legacy of good and happiness. Memorial Day has a new special meaning to me now. I know that every Memorial Day to come, it will help me look and see what kind of person I am and help me re-evaluate the things that are most important in life. Have I done anything to better another person? Have I been selfless and Christ like? I hope that I too can leave wonderful memories like those we visited yesterday.

After the Phoenix cemetery, we went to the Mesa cemetery. We visited my great grandparents, my Grandad and sister Melanie.

We also got to visit Gunner. Lane was very excited to bring some toys for his cousin to play with and picked each one out by himself.

after the cemetery's we swam and had a yummy BBQ

after watching this bad example:

Lane got a little dare devilish and started going crazy wanting to run and jump off anything he could think of. He was having fun until he,

crashed...

... and burned:(

That's such a cool tradition that your family has. It's good to remember what we're here for, and family has a great way of reminding us of that.

Sorry I didn't good bye when we left for the movie- you were out getting your tan on and we had to hurry to make the movie. So fun! Poor lane and his lip. I'm so proud of you for going to the Memorial in PHX. I haven't been for years as well because we are always doing something else but I think you are right, I need to make it a priority and I like what you said about re-evaluating our lifes =) Well once again you never call to play so I guess we will never get to hang out =( We are here all summer.

It's neat to hear that you still visit your sister's grave...I'm always trying to think of ways that I can teach my other kids (when we have them) about Jackson & help them remember him. I can't believe that pic of your brother! Lincoln does stuff like that and it totally freaks me out.

Now, I feel bad for Laners lip and all, but I feel worse for your mom! I would probably have a nervous breakdown with people flying off of my roof. Not only is it high (big deal) but it's far to the pool (bigger deal). I'd need some drinks for family gatherings to handle the stress! You guys are so much fun, I miss you! I love the idea of the graveside devotionals. How special to remember those who've gone and what we're doing with our time here. Great tradition.

ouch! i cannot let kendi see that...I guarantee she would find a way up on that roof! glad you guys had a good memorial day. I love holidays at home too!

Ok, the "Sharon" I knew growing up would've freaked at seeing her boys jump off the roof into the pool, she must've really mellowed out with stuff like that as you guys have grown up :)
